The Shelton Timberland Library hosts its 2nd annual free concert series. Take advantage of warm August evenings and take in some outdoor concerts at the Shelton Timberland Library (William G. Reed Public Library). Musicians with five very different styles will play for you in the library’s amphitheater each Tuesday in August from 6:30-7:30pm. The library closes at 7 p.m. on Tuesdays so come before 6:30 if you want to use the library, then enjoy the music. The space has both built-in seating and grassy areas for you to place your chair or blanket. The free all-ages concert series is sponsored by the Friends of the Shelton Timberland Library. Folk Music with Dan Triplett, 6:30 p.m., Tuesday, August 10 Local favorite, Dan Triplett, presents an interactive concert of folk music for the whole family.

Pinniped, 6:30 p.m., Tuesday, August 24 Pinniped plays lively acoustic tunes flowing from the Celtic tradition.

CELEBRATE OAKLAND BAY 9-4-10 |

Celebrate Oakland Bay! Wake up with the stars — sea stars — on Saturday, September. 4 8:30am-1pm. Explore the wonders of Hammersley Inlet and Oakland Bay that morning, as the retreating tide uncovers its underwater treasures. This is a FREE family event featuring a guided beach walk, revealing the world of shore crabs, sea anemones, gunnels and other life exposed by the low tide. Information booths will provide fun activities and opportunities for people of all ages to improve water quality. The event is at the dynamic tidelands of Walker County Park, 2400 Walker Park Road in Shelton. Washington Sea Grant Marine Water Quality Specialist Teri King will lead the beach walk, beginning at 8:30am. Shellfish grower Steve Bloomfield will introduce participants to the bountiful bivalves of Oakland Bay at 10:30 a.m.Five-time OysterFest shucking champion Xinh Dwelley will teach oyster shucking, share recipes, and offer tastes of her oyster stew and other seafood delicacies, beginning at 11am. Bring the family and start Labor Day weekend on the beach. Parking is limited, so walking or carpooling is advised, if possible. Participants should dress for the weather and wear boots or beach shoes. |

A cancer diagnosis and subsequent treatment can feel overwhelming to patients, family members and friends. In addition to the physical impact, an individual’s emotional, social, spiritual and financial state may be affected. For help in coping with cancer, the Providence Regional Cancer System and Mason General Hospital will host an informational session on this topic Thursday, September 9 in MGH’s Washington Room. Cobie Whitten, Ph.D., will lead the session and provide information, resources and support for people at all points along the cancer journey. Dr. Whitten holds a doctorate in clinical psychology and has extensive experience working with cancer patients. MGH is approved by the Joint Commission, is a licensed and accredited acute care hospital with a level four emergency trauma designation. The Shelton Rock and Mineral Society will host a Tailgate Rock Sale and Swap Event, September 11, 2010, at the Shelton Youth Soccer Park 2102 Johns Prairie Road, Shelton , WA., from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. The event is open to any rockhounder or any other interested people. There is a $15.00 pre-registration fee or, a $20.00 fee if you register the day of the event. The registration is per vehicle. Pre-registration checks and applications may be sent to the Shelton Rock and Mineral Society at P. O. Box 242 Shelton, WA 98584.
