The Mason County Sheriff's Office is notifying the community of a transient sex offender who will be splitting his time between Shelton and Allyn. According to a sex offender information bulletin, 40-year-old Kyle Shane Murner recently moved back to Mason County from Kitsap County and has registered his address with the Sheriff's Office as "Transient between" Shelton and Allyn. Murner is required to register as a sex offender due to a 1994 conviction in California for 16 counts of Unlawful Sexual Intercourse with a Minor and 1 count of Annoy/Molest Children. This conviction stems from Murner at age 24, having sex with a 14-year-old girl on multiple occasions and sexually molesting a 4-year-old girl.  Both girls were children of friends and were not related to Murner, but the sexual assaults occurred while he was living in the same residence as the children.  The Mason County Sheriff's Office has assessed Murner as a level 1 sex offender. However, due to his homeless/transient status, Murner's assessment has been raised to Level 3, the highest level, and he is considered at a high risk to re-offend.

The Mason County Sheriff's Office is also notifying the community of a recently released sex offender who is living south of Shelton near Lake Isabella. A sex offender information bulletin says that 24-year-old Michael Lawrence Munger was recently released from custody after a domestic violence charge and has given his address as within the 100 block of West Storybrook Lane in Shelton, which is north of Lake Isabella. Munger is required to register as a sex offender for a 2000 conviction in Thurston County for Indecent Liberties with Forcible Compulsion along with Assault 2nd Degree and Burglary 1st Degree. This conviction stems from Munger pleading guilty to stalking a 13-year-old girl for a month.  Court records show that after stalking the girl, Munger then forced himself into her residence and held a knife to her chest while he sexually molested and raped the girl.  Munger also has an extensive criminal history.

Man sentenced for holding child's head under water

A soldier who held his 4-year-old daughter's head under water in a kitchen sink because she would not recite the alphabet has been sentenced to two months in jail. The Olympian newspaper says 27-year-old Joshua Ryan Tabor was sentenced Thursday in Thurston County Superior Court. Tabor is a Joint Base Lewis-McChord soldier who lives in Yelm. He earlier entered an Alford plea to three counts of third-degree felony assault of a child. An Alford plea means a defendant doesn't admit guilt but concedes there's enough evidence for conviction. At the sentencing, prosecutors read a statement from a relative who now has custody of the girl, saying she has nightmares about her father trying to drown her and has suffered hearing loss caused by blows to the head.
